It must be possible to take a sample of the treated wastewater if necessary. A sample can be taken from a sampling well when the wastewater is discharged into an open ditch, for example. If the water is absorbed into the ground, an absorption well can be used to take a sample.

A sample of the treated water should always be obtained from wastewater treatment plants to verify the cleaning efficiency of the plant. The sample can be taken from the end of the discharge pipe, but the municipality may also require a separate sampling well.
