Wastewater from the clubhouse cleaned with Vestell’s Biopurifier, Kirkkonummi

“Renewing the wastewater system became necessary because the field solution installed six years ago became blocked and stopped working. The reason could have been an installation error or the fact that the system could not withstand such a large wastewater load. Due to the problems, the field solution also required regular maintenance, which was not always possible due to the nature of the site,” explains Teresia Kajanti.

Runhälla Community Centre is located in Långvik, Kirkkonummi. Some of the buildings are over 100 years old, some were built in the 1950s. However, Runhälla is in good condition and is an excellent place to organize various celebrations, such as weddings, birthdays and Christmas parties. Runhälla can accommodate over 120 people. In addition, the premises house a 30-person daycare center, Daghemmet Björnen.

The search for a replacement solution for the clogged field system began. Kajanti wondered how to find a suitable wastewater designer and received a tip from a company that handles the emptying of greywater wells. They recommended contacting Wassis. “I called Wassis and was convinced that they could help us create a good wastewater plan. Other youth clubs had also used Wassis as a designer, so that was even more convincing. The designer’s reliability was a very important factor in our choice,” adds Teresia Kajanti .

After the telephone conversation, Stefan Wasström from Wassis visited Runhälla to get to know it. At the same time, more detailed discussions were held about the type of monitoring activities and how they affect the choice of wastewater system.

The building is in irregular use, meaning that sometimes it is very active and sometimes it is almost empty in July and January. This places strict demands on the wastewater system, as it must cope with high-intensity use, but also with situations where there is very little or no use. In addition, the building is located about 100 meters from the shore, so this increases the demands on the system.

“After the planning meeting, we received an offer, discussed it at the monitoring house board meeting, and decided to start renewing the wastewater system,” says Teresia Kajanti. “Wassis was also very helpful with the permit process and did all the necessary work to ensure that the permits were in place on time,” continues Kajanti.

A suitable system for the site was selected through Vestell’s sizing service.

The wastewater system selected was a larger Vestell Biopurifier for grey wastewater, sized for use by several dozen people. It is easy to maintain and works regardless of whether the use is heavy or light. The device works well even when the load quickly rises to a high level after a break in use. “The biopurifier also does not need to be maintained separately, so it suits us, because now no one on the board of the monitoring house needs to take separate responsibility for the device,” emphasizes Kajanti. Emptying is the only annual maintenance measure required by the biopurifier. Due to the proximity of the water body, an important selection criterion for the system was also its very high purification level.

The renovation of the Runhälla wastewater system went smoothly from planning to installation of the system. “It’s worth getting to know the subject a little yourself, but it’s worth listening to the designer’s tips and advice on choosing a wastewater system. Professionals know what they’re doing,” summarizes Teresia Kajanti.
