DanHatch is an international company with one of its offices located in Kokemäki, Finland. This industrial facility, built in the 1980s, is one of Vestell’s latest collaboration projects. The facility operates as a broiler hatchery and is located near a nature reserve and groundwater area. The purpose and location of the facility placed special demands on the project in terms of water treatment.

This spring, a tailor-made wastewater system was implemented for Kokemäki, which included the Biopurifier 240 treatment plant as a key component. The number series 240 refers to the purifier’s daily treatment capacity, which is 24 m3/day.
“Our facility covers an area of approximately 2,500 square meters, and chicks are hatched in the broiler hatchery three times a week. One of the important tasks performed in the hatchery is sanitation, which means that a lot of water is used,” says hatchery manager Tero Heino, when asked about the facility’s operations.

Special features of the plant include large water flows during production and cleaning. The plant also has washing machines and toilets, which increase water consumption. Due to the large flows, efficient water treatment and storage capacity is essential. The treatment plant processes the plant’s cleaning water, as well as chemicals generated during washing and disinfection, so the efficiency of the cleaning system is particularly important. Heino reveals that an expansion of the incubator is planned, so the whole thing was thought out from the beginning so that any future expansion can be easily and completely carried out without interrupting production.

The industrial plant’s old cleaning equipment had reached the end of its service life, and the system update became relevant in spring 2022. On the recommendation of an expert, DanHatch’s management team contacted Vestell. “We also examined offers from other providers, but Vestell clearly met our requirements best in terms of both size and capacity,” describes Heino. Shortly after the contact, a cooperation agreement was signed with Vestell, which included planning, equipment procurement, contractor selection and implementation. From the beginning, the management team trusted Vestell’s professionalism and ability to implement the project independently.

The project began with a site inspection and detailed plan, which defined the locations of equipment and piping. Next, the installation team began digging tank trenches and installing Biopuhsitaja 240 tanks. The use of anchoring fabrics to anchor the tanks proved to be a sensible and economical solution, taking into account soil moisture. At the same time, the installation of the sewer line also began. A deep sewer line was dug open and a Vestell 4m3 septic tank was installed. In addition, a wastewater pumping station was installed, which ensures efficient pumping of wastewater in the system. The pipes between the tanks were connected and sewer inspection wells were installed, which would make it easier to implement a possible future expansion.

Plumbing was also a significant part of the construction process. The sewer pipes and cable protection pipes were carefully installed, ensuring their proper protected location. In addition, pressure relief plates were placed in the trench to protect the sewer line from heavy traffic. Finally, the finishing phase was carried out, where the final filling was done, the area was cleaned and the entire system was inspected. “The installation went quickly, and there was no need to interrupt production even during the installation,” Heino highlights. The project was successfully completed in April 2023.

“Vestell’s design, installation, commissioning and customer service have been very good. They quickly took on the project and supported us with their professionalism,” says Heino. A maintenance agreement was also signed for the project, in which Vestelli will maintain the equipment twice a year.
“The partnership with Vestell has worked excellently and we have always received quick help when needed. The project was a success in every way, and we are very satisfied with the end result,” Heino concludes.
