Antti Kosunen and his wife are renovating a unique 24-apartment full-service complex in Nuuksio. PolkuNuuksio Resort is located a half-hour drive from Helsinki, on the shores of Lake Kurjolampi within the nature reserve of Nuuksio National Park.
The PolkuNuuksio holiday apartment is the perfect place for someone who wants to enjoy the peace of nature without the obligations of a summer cottage. The apartment can be used as a remote workplace or as a holiday home. Residents are attracted by the comprehensive range of nature activities and the resort’s excellent services.
The project is progressing at a promising pace and the jointly owned nature hotel will start operating in October. The site is currently being decorated and the yard is being finished. Everything at PolkuNuuksio has been done as carefully as possible in accordance with nature’s conditions and with respect for the environment – including the site’s new wastewater system. In addition, the site’s electricity will be partly produced by its own solar power.

During the renovation, the wastewater treatment plant was completely renovated. The old system from 1992 was taken out of service and a completely new wastewater system was installed.

PolkuNuuksio’s new wastewater system includes a Vestelli wastewater pumping station, two septic tanks, a Vestelli BioKube all-purpose wastewater purifier, and a soil filtration field. As the resort is located in a nature reserve, it is important to have a wastewater system that achieves the highest purification results. The Vestelli BioKube Mars 6000 meets the strictest environmental requirements and is therefore perfectly suited to an area where the purification requirements are among the strictest in Finland.

Another important criterion for Antti is that the wastewater system works flawlessly even with changing load levels, as the resort’s occupancy rate varies. The BioKube device technology utilizes continuous water circulation, which ensures the device’s operation in all conditions.
“A system was chosen that has top-notch cleaning results and is best with varying water usage. The system’s operational reliability must not suffer even if the amount of wastewater varies.”
Vestell’s Lasse Åkerlund was involved in the installation of PolkuNuuksio’s new wastewater system. His task was to ensure that the equipment was installed in accordance with regulations and the manufacturer’s instructions. The installation was carried out based on a plan prepared by Vestell. A wastewater pumping station was located near the resort, and the purifier itself was installed well further away, 80 meters from the resort. This ensured that the peace and harmony of the area would be maintained.
The installation work went well despite the challenging weather conditions. The septic tanks, treatment plant and soil filtration field were installed first, and finally all the pipes and ducts in the system were insulated with insulation boards.
